1) Reese rolled over the first time on Wednesday - from her back to her tummy! She only ever rolled over from tummy to back once, the day we moved in to our apartment actually, so this newer and harder roll was quite an exciting event to witness. And she did it again this afternoon.
2) Reese finally, finally, FINALLY slept through the night again. The first time since April 6th. Getting 7 consecutive hours of sleep was amazing (she actually slept 10).

Road Trippin'
Drive 5 hours from St. Paul and you get where...let's see, Fargo, ND, somewhere god-awful in Iowa, Milwaukee, WI (not as bad as the others, but still not really a vacation mecca), the list isn't great. Drive 5 hours from Atlanta and you get to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Much better!
Scot just had 4 days off so we packed up and drove east on Saturday and stayed at the Hilton Oceanfront hotel on Hilton Head Island for 2 nights. The weather on Saturday was amazing - we hit the ocean and the pool right away and lingered for quite some time. Ava and Reese both loved it. Scot and I especially enjoyed the pina coladas. ;-) We fell into the same routine on Sunday morning (well, without the pina coladas) until about 1:00 when it started thunderstorming. It rained the rest of the day and night, which was quite a bummer. But we made due with napping, relaxing, and heading out for a nice dinner. The weather was still bad on Monday morning, so we made a fairly prompt departure and got back to Atlanta around 3 pm. All in all, it was a good litle trip and maybe we'll get back again before we leave the south in July.
And of course, here are some pictures!

Miscellaneous
Another busy week in Atlanta. Or "Atlanty" as Ava likes to call it, which she then follows up with "I call it Atlanty." And then at least once, twice, maybe up to five repetitions. I wonder when our life as a constant narration will end...probably not until she leaves for college.
Anywho, we tried some different things this week. We checked out a really neat park on Monday. Two storytimes - one on Tuesday at Barnes & Noble, one today at Borders. Both were decent. And both were nice because I only had Ava - Scot was home both mornings to watch Reese. I could really get used to this life :-) It sucks that he isn't home now in the evening (he had a 7:30pm sim tonight), but a lot of our days consist of a decent amount of lounging around - this afternoon we all went to the pool, which was fun, though the water really needs to warm up some!
We took Reese to the doctor on Wednesday for her 4 month appointment - she's a little on the petite side - 13.6 lbs & 24 3/4 inches. And almost identical to Ava at 4 months. She was a trooper during the appointment and didn't have any ill side effects from the shots.

In the afternoon we made an alphabet pizza. I discovered a link to this blog on another friend's blog - she has great activities to do that generally require few materials. Here's how ours turned out - kind of fun!

I had this conversation with Ava yesterday:
H: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: A doctor. Actually, a queen. A queen, Mom. A queen.
We're toying with the idea of going to Hilton Head for the weekend - it's about a 4 hour drive and looks pretty amazing. We can also get half price rooms (military rate) at a pretty swanky hotel. Scot has Monday and Tuesday off, so if we go, we'll probably leave Saturday and come back Monday. We are also looking forward to Grandma Di's visit next week!

Happy 4 months!
Happy 4 months to Reese!
A quick run-down...
Eats a lot
Poops a lot (but not as much as before)
Sleeps NOT a lot - we've definitely taken a nose dive in this area. She's taking better naps, but has been waking up multiple times each night in the last month.
Her favorite toy is a stuffed sun, followed closey by plastic rings. She hates to be in a sitting position (we didn't even bother bringing the Bumbo to Atlanta with us) or even a semi-reclining position - she wants to stand, stand, stand all the time and has favored this since her first few weeks of life. She smiles a lot and has two very cute dimples - one on each side beneath her mouth. She gives the biggest smiles when she sees her Daddy and herself in the mirror. She rarely cries for no reason. She still needs to be swaddled for naps and sleeps best when her electric fan noise is playing. When she gets really excited she slaps her tummy with her right hand in a rythmic motion. She is starting to laugh a little more often. She is a sweet, sweet girl. With really chubby thighs.
We checked out the Atlanta Zoo yesterday and it was a lot of fun - the layout is really nice with a lot of great exhibits. It wasn't very busy, the weather was perfect, and there were very few tantrums - all in all, a very good experience. Scot took a lot of great photos - here are some of our favorites:

The Real Housewife of Atlanta
Ahh...so this marks my first full week as a stay at home mom. And I survived. There were many ups and many downs and I'm not so sure I'd sign up for this for the long run, BUT I am cherishing the time because I know it's unlikely I'll have another opportunity like this again.
We have done a lot over the past week. Scot got home early last Friday, so we took Ava to a place called Monkey Joe's. Wow - this place was unbelievable. It was full of huge inflatable slides and bouncers and Ava RAN for 2 hours straight. This one was her favorite:
Reese watched with wide eyes and thought playing on the floor was just as fun.
We'll definitely be going back. When we were driving around looking for it, we passed by a Kindercare daycare center, so I hopped in to check it out. It was really nice, so I will get the girls registered to start on June 1st, when I go back to work. I had called 2 other centers while we were still in MN, but upon arriving I found out that one was going to be closing. My mom and I took the girls to the other one to check it out, but I wasn't really crazy about it. So, it's nice to have that taken care of.
On Saturday we went to the base for Family Day - Ava had a ball playing on more inflatables and a nice playground and checking out some of the other activities. She even got to put out a fire!
Sunday was a lazy day - Scot headed out to Starbucks in the morning to study (for some reason it is hard to concentrate in our apartment...) And we got Ava her first bike! Princess of course. It didn't take her long to get the hang of it and she's been riding around our parking lot almost every day.
Scot's schedule has been all over the place - this past week he has gone in to the base at either 8am, 10am, or 2pm for training and is typically there for 6-8 hours. When he's not there, he is studying. There is A LOT to learn. Not only is he shifting from the right seat to the left seat, the C-130s they use here are an older model than he is used to flying in MN, so he has to learn those differences too. Doesn't really seem fair! But he is handling it all very well - it is still a lot easier than his initial pilot training was.
The girls and I tried out some different activities this week - we checked out a free storytime/music class that is held on Tuesday & Friday mornings at the local community center. Both times I was disappointed with Ava's behavior - usually she is really interested and well-behaved at those kinds of things, but not this one. It might be the sheer size - both times we went there were probably 30+ moms with 1 or 2 kids each, so it was fairly overwhelming. Reese loved watching all of the kids dance around but Ava didn't participate and instead spent all of her time pushing my buttons. I think we'll try a traditional library storytime next week and see how that goes. On Wednesday, we went to a preschool program at a local garden - the description said we'd have an adventure and create a ladybug garden. Well, Ava painted a rock and the teachers attempted some lame activities while the paint dried. Oh well...
It rained quite a bit this week, so it was a little more challenging to keep Ava entertained. Thursday was beautiful, though, so I got brave and decided to take the girls to the pool by myself. And this was actually a success (well, by my rock bottom standards anyway). I'm not sure all of the college students who were sunning themselves in a zenlike oasis were thrilled to see me walk in with my jumbo stroller and a 3 year old, but that is beside the point. By the way, what college students live in a nice complex like this? They deserve a little hardship - my kids might as well be it. But really, Ava and Reese were both very well-behaved. Ava is doing really well with her water wings and Reese was mostly content to just lay around poolside. So I alternated between going in the pool with Ava and getting out of the pool to entertain Reese - there was little relaxation, but there was no crying and we used up about 90 minutes of time. :-) When Scot can come with us, it will be even better.
So, that wraps up the week. Ava and I spent our Friday night watching Shrek 2 and dining on macaroni and cheese. And now Scot is on his way home at 8:30pm. We're thinking about checking out the zoo tomorrow morning...and then I'm headed to a 90 minute massage, an early Mother's Day present from my dear husband. Yay!
