Semper Fidelis

Last night we attended our first Marine Corp Ball, an annual event to celebrate the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corp.  It was located at the Westin Hotel in downtown  Zagreb, on the 17th floor, with incredible views of the city.  We had a really great time with our new friends and made some more new friends!  We were seated at a table with two couples from the Austrian Embassy, who were so friendly.  And they loved that my name is Heidi.  :-)  In fact, I often get a very warm & excited response when I tell any locals my name.  They love the story of Heidi here.  Anyway, it was a great night.  Good food, free drinks and dancing.  All to honor the Marines, who do so much for our country.

On Thanksgiving, we are actually going to the "Marine House" here in Zagreb to celebrate with them.  There are nine young Marines (seriously young, the youngest was born in 1990!) who are stationed here to provide security to the Embassy.  I'm looking forward to spending the holiday with them and a few other families.  It's not "home", but it's a great alternative.
